I like consulting because other people’s business problems are so much more interesting than my own. My personal biz meta-work amounts to random acts of cash-flow management every few months when arbitrary numbers I’m vaguely aware of wander outside apathy bounds to anxiety zones

There's a seriously fun aspect of learning how someone else's business makes money-understanding how the world works. Consulting draws you in with this, then pushes you out with the pain of coming up with a non-obvious, valuable deliverable (PPT, drawings/plans, etc).

TBH, I think that's really your real innovation with consulting. Majority of clients need something to show investors/CEOs/owners.

II basically try not to work with people who don’t own the decisions they are responsible for. You only need BS “deliverables” if you’re working for someone who’s not the ultimate decision-maker on how to use the thinking being done.
