There are 2 kinds of Indians in corporate America: spelling-bee Indians, and the kind that, if business were literally war, would be South African mercenaries doing “nation-building”. The ratio of the 2 subspecies often tells you everything you need to know about a business.

The South African analogy hits uncomfortably close. You don’t want to dig too deep into the historic roots of South African military talent . You don’t want to dig too deep into the historic roots of Indian management talent. In both cases you may not like the answers you find.

It can be. Short for Swaminathan. South Indian names traditionally are just 1 name, with father’s name or village name prefixed as initials if necessary for paperwork. The pattern is changing to western style first/last though and Swamy or Swaminathan is usu cast as a last name
