Wtf.
@vgr this is not okay. Magnitsky was torture brutally to death in one of the most well documented cases of blind corruption in history. You cannot equate his treatment with what Trump is doing. It’s not even intellectually dishonest, it’s a scourge on Magnitskys legacy.1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -
Not sure what you’re mad about. The point isn’t that Trump is torturing people. The point is, it’s a tactical precedent for how foreign powers can hold a country’s leaders individually responsible for their actions in ways that don’t affect those not complicit in them.

Exactly. You’re lowering the bar for this kind of behavior with precedent. I do NOT want foreign governments to start using Interpol Red notices and equivalent against individuals they do not like. Today it’s Trump. Tomorrow it’s Icahn, or Soros. The day after its Malala.

I think it’s a legit tactic. The 1% controls population movements globally through visa regimes. This is just similar controls on the global elite. Geopolitical no-platforming.

I agree it’s a powerful tactic and new. Maybe in theory you’re right, but I can’t help but draw parallels to the intelligence and surveillance apparatus and the misuse of power there. This will be abused beyond what we can see today. I#

I don’t think it’s new. Historically dictators fleeing from their own people have had to pick carefully to find asylum. I think this is a natural extension of how international court of justice etc work to nail war criminals etc. I think such a justice system is actually good.
