This thread requires a hard look at the history of domestic inbound migration patterns for context though. CA hasn't been a draw for working- to middle-class families since the early eighties. Time spent in third-tier small cities in NY & PA recently confirms that a family of 3 is better off with $45k (~median) there than $120k/yr (~twice median) here.

I wish they had coming back to 1840 as the Gold Rush, Great Depression and Boom after WWII would be fascinating to analyze.
Note most of the California's net migration out of the state is in the form of poor not rich ppl
