“You’ll be a hero to X if you do Y” ... what sort of person does that work on?
The idea of that being a motivator feels downright alien to me. Are there people with a hero identity? Not super, just hero.

Unfortunately, it works on anyone who has a desperate need for approval from a specific person or group. Manipulators search for the vulnerability and then pounce on it. I have seen people use this shamelessly in both personal and work relationships.

Might work for me if X was my child, and upon reflection I agreed.
I say this as someone who intuitively recoils with disgust from any attempt at external motivation.
