Capitol Police requested support from EPPD for that event, which drew some aggressive protestors including a border militia member who is a convicted felon. PD never showed up. Capitol Police later told us that EPPD refused to help, telling them the event was “too political.“ 2/

Once sworn into Congress, we requested support from EPPD, from a training on safety for citizens attending my town hall meetings (after death threats against me, my family and staff), to a meeting in our office to talk through security concerns w/ immigrant rights advocates. 3/

We never received that support. It is important to hold public officials accountable. Without accountability there is impunity. And when it comes to public safety, impunity can be dangerous. FIN/
