I remember that in school in 1992, I asked the same question to my COBOL teacher about TCP/IP ....

-
IP = Bitcoin block chain TCP = Lighting Network HTTP = (not there yet)
-
the meaningful comparisons are not infrastructure, but software - BitTorrent, Tor, git, Freenet. LN is best compared to IPFS, which is BitTorrent with more promises (very few realised).

I think the point of my analogy is that an old guy that did something great forgot that at one point, they were saying the same thing about the technology he invented. We see that everywhere in
#Politics, and the latest great example is that @Ocasio2018 victory in New York City. -
Nobody said anything like that about the internet. Honestly, trust us, we were there, the Internet was evidently groundbreaking since day one.
-
yes. Per my link above, claims that nobody liked the Internet are just another fairy tale that bitcoiners tell themselves. The Internet was used for real work at every stage. Bitcoiners only go "like the Internet" as an excuse for its *failures*.
-
and Theo, I put it to you that you're straight up lying about your COBOL lecturer in 1992

I'm not in agreement with a lot of this, TBH. Most of what we do with the organisations we work with, is based on tokenisation of physical, "real-world" assets or process, and working with large amounts of off-chain data.

Funny thing is, the "blockchain" is "event sourcing with checksum" in core. And every reliable database already use that. The oldest even for decades.
