(I once had an author show me her manuscript, point out how few notes there were from her editor and say, unironically, "That's how I know they're good. Because they know I'm good.")

IT'S SOOO DIFFERENT! I'm a short-story writer, trying to write a novel this year and my dozens of short stories ain't making it any easier.
