I just read a review for a book I loooooooved that criticized the very elements of the book that worked the MOST for me, and this is why I never get bothered by a bad review.

  5. “You make charms in the shape of children to keep them well in winter. You think peaches are the sweetest fruit, and that church walls are too thick for prayers to get through, and you want to be buried not beneath a stone, but in a patch of shade under a large tree.”

Still thinking about this...B&N is doing this in partnership with Penguin Random House, which owns the rights to practically everything. They could’ve just repackaged a bunch of books by black authors instead, promoted it as a Black History Month thing. WHY

As someone who absolutely adored the classicsin my youth (those who've read both will see how Moby Dick influenced THE GIRL FROM EVERYWHERE): I'd rather see editions with editors notes about how Melville was gay, or Dumas was black, than "culturally diverse custom covers."

  9. For the love of books. This is meta in the worst way, a giant step backward, pretending that performance is allyship. You could have recommended real diverse reads. You could have showcased incredible authors telling new and important stories.

Now is the perfect time to share the project I've quietly been working on. I am excited to introduce ✨The Bookshelf✨ "WeLL, wAt iS iT?" someone shouts from the back. It's a FREE online database showcasing stories by Diverse & Marginalized writers. 1/

  21. With every book, I hit a point, right at the end, where I don't recognize the words as mine. My words are messy, clunky, cluttered. These smooth and shiny ones must belong to someone else.
