  2. ...and in some cases apathy, and makes people less engaged with our electoral politics when we need people more engaged than ever. There’s reporting to be done. Do it. (I’m taking off on a flight, sry.) Don’t speculate. Don’t contribute to confusion or hysteria. And be patient.

  3. There are significant problems emerging with the app and caucus changes that are worth addressing (including transparency and relationships to campaigns). I just want everyone to take a breath before they jump to conclusions and then spread them. Mistrust breeds cynicism...

Takeaway: We must vote in record numbers. Will there be problems, like Iowa? Maybe. But elections are local. Engage with officials & demand transparency. Don’t give up & let them keep you from voting. Your vote matters or they wouldn’t be trying so hard to keep you from it.

  6. Former Sen. Bill Nelson, a Biden supporter, is on my flight from Des Moines to Florida this morning. I asked him what he thought of the chaos last night. He laughed and said, “no results!” and shrugged

A funny thing is how the Iowa caucus rules were changed specifically to prevent unfounded conspiracies from spreading and now they're all over the place with far more prominent voices from across the political spectrum recklessly amplifying them

Fair. Romney was declared the winner first, but then Santorum ended up with the most votes—maybe, because GOP officials lost the results from 8 precincts. And then Ron Paul ended up with 80% of the delegates even though he was 3rd among voters.

“This fiasco means the end of the caucuses as a significant American political event." the legendary former Des Moines Register Reporter David Yepsen tells me. "I expect Iowans will move themselves to kill it off by holding a primary." Updated story:

Just want to clarify something: These results are accurate and I believe when we get the results to the they will be *accurate*. Every person in the room saw every stage, agreed to the accuracy of every count, and there's a paper trail for every person's choices. 1/

  15. This. This magnified the problems in an irrational way. I’ve always thought if we want carefully counted, verified election results, expecting them within 2 hours is unreasonable anyway.

I get why conspiracy theories are flourishing now. But people should get a grip. There are paper ballots. The caucuses happen OUT IN THE OPEN FOR EVERYONE TO SEE. And each campaign has internal data to check if things are messy. There isn’t a wizard behind the curtain here.
