    This is the small room in Shaheen School in Bidar where students were taken to for questioning for the fourth (yes, fourth) time by police in plainclothes. I was in the school when police asked students where they practiced, who taught them dialogues, why was a flag used. (1/n)

    I am absolutely shocked and dumbfounded by Arupjyoti's ordeal. He is one of our most ourstanding historians and his most recent book on the Brahmaputra is a classic. I wholeheartedly endorse the appeal made by these distinguished scholars.

    The one thing that is being overlooked in the Jamia shooting incident is the Gandhian response of the young students to a highly provocative act like shooting at point-blank range in police presence. For hours after that shooting, there was no violence or any aggressive reaction.

    Reminds me of 1940 individual satyagraha. People calmly made speeches and were promptly arrested. Gandhi had chosen Vinoba Bhave as the first satyagrahi followed by Nehru. In 1940 calling for swaraj was a challenge to the Govt. Today it is Jana Gana Mana and hailing Gandhi.
