The enthusiastic focus on tech advancement reduces the actually lived realities of disabled people, a problem that disability activists have continuously raised in response to videos like that. Read this essay by & the community responses:

I present you with the logout "button" I found on a site this morning: There is so much wrong with that, it's hard to list everything... *sigh*

Organization: "Your membership expires soon, renew now" Me: Checks account details on org's website. Membership expires May 20. That's THREE months away. For a yearly membership. And if I renew now, it resets the membership calendar to 1 year. So lose 3 months? Urhm... No, thx

Trying to find an accessible orange that works both as text and as a call to action with white text is a fun game, especially when tools don't round and calculate the same way, haha

different accessibility color checker tools, sometimes #C7530F as background and white as text is ok, sometimes not depending on how the tool calculates the contrast and rounds it

I just had my eyes dilated, so I can’t read any text that isn’t comically large. I don’t know how to use a screen reader. I’ll be fine in a few hours, but this has been a fascinating journey into how well third-party iOS apps respect text size accessibility settings! (Thread)

A reminder to anyone using the hashtag today. If you're feeling inspired about an ad that features disability, please ask yourself who the ad is for before tweeting your good feelings. Is it for disabled people or is it using disabled people to inspire everyone else?

And another 2 hours later and still no signal. Dependable service? I think not!

I’ve been a faithful customer for seven years now. I would expect you to provide solid service. It’s not what I’m getting now. Do I need to look elsewhere?

SOMETIMES WHEN I WANT TO FEEL ANGRY I remember my freshman rhetoric professor who said she was thankful to have me as a student in our class and that she'd never had someone like me in her class before.

Hey how come every time I come back in Canada I get no service from you for hours? Like >15 hours last time. On an AT&T esim roaming on Rogers, I get service. Seems weird. In an area where I typically can get you.

I think bad code is a manifestation of accessibility problems, a symptom that the approach, the system, the mindset is not mindful of inclusive practices. That’s in the end the issue with testing final products, it’s treating symptoms, not root causes. Doomed to repeat errors.

Difficult to protect yourself from this coronavirus bug. Most pharmacies and shops around here are sold out on facemasks, and hand sanitizers. No date on sight when new stock coming in

Sign on the pharmacy counter, we are sold out of all sanitizers and facemasks. No date on when they will come in.

Props to and for working to improve Jaws' performance with Firefox. Large badly built websites stil lag, but it's noticeably better than the last time I tried them - enough that I'm back using Firefox as my default \o/
