Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is on so I drew Charlie Bucket. A few years ago in an interview Roald Dahl’s wife Felicity said that he once imagined Charlie as a little black boy, so here’s my version. 🍫

I have a Black father and an Indian mother. People have trouble with my first name. Ive been asked "what are you?" my whole life. Ive never had a public figure to point to that shared my background so closely before Kamala and I didn't realize how huge that felt until last night.

I promise, I start every drawing with the intention of doing something different, but it always ends up being a girl looking up at the stars - sorry not sorry 🤷🏾‍♀️👩🏾‍🎨

Last year I illustrated a Hallmark card and today I finally got to see the finished product! They added glitter - which I love! I found out it is *exclusively sold at Walmart* so if you’re looking for a copy, check in-store!

Sorry this is overdue! reached out to see if I can make some art for Ariyonna last week, but this one was really tough for me-her cries felt so familiar. I’m 🙏🏽for the words of love & affirmation @LilWaveDaddy was there to give her. Ariyonna you radiate beauty! 🌼

When I was little I had an imaginary friend named “ghost friend” lol. Ghost friend somehow was responsible for any of the bad things *someone* might have done around the house. “Vashti did you break this figurine?” “No! Ghost friend did it!”

I’m so saddened to hear of Ms Katherine Johnson’s passing but feel so lucky to know her story, to share it & celebrate her in her lifetime. With a heavy heart I’ll have to change the dates in Little Leaders. Still it feels good to know she’ll be remembered forever as leader 🌕⭐️

4 yrs ago today I started a drawing challenge for myself to depict a Black Woman in the form of these little kid characters I created every day for BHM. That project got turned into a book that just spent its 52nd week on the NYT Bestsellers list! TYASM! Happy #BlackHistoryMonth
