That one scene encapsulates one of the main themes of the movie, no?..guys with the “right stuff” watching with amusement from the outside at the bumbling infancy of the space race.
Chuck Yeager is a true American hero. The movie was good, the book was better, and Yeager was excellent. Hey Ridley, you got any Beemans?

Love that movie! Loved the cameo! Totally wore out the VHS copy I had. So much respect for the General. nd for all the "spam in a can" hero's who risked so much to further this country's technical abilities and standing.
I also offer a prayer for, and tip of the hat to, Gus Grissom, a hero I have always felt I can relate to.
