AG Bill Barr's CNN interview “reveals the degree to which the DOJ is being and will be weaponized in Trump’s effort to hold power. His willingness to just defy all of the evidence before him and just participate in the president’s political agenda is staggering.” –

This thread. One day these incidents could be part of the history books on how close the US came to full authoritarianism. For now it’s all happening unless we stop it.

This was two years ago – the day the hearings began. We fought every day to stop Trump’s Supreme Court takeover, and we fight every day now for fair courts & to stop anti-civil rights judges. These are our courts, not Trump’s, and we’ll never stop fighting for them.

My phone is blowing up. Academy classmates, old Army friends, former Soldiers, colleagues. The anger, sadness, raw rage is palpable. At what was said, but more so to all those who excused it and wished it away. Every wound of each and every loss is open and raw again.

On behalf of women, may I just say that it is so ridiculous and outrageous that the Speaker of the House has to spend even a second on this. We are in the middle of a pandemic and war on our democracy and economic crisis, people.

The private sector has a key role to play in building an America as good as its ideals. Businesses around the globe can, and do, significantly impact society in the space of civil and human rights. But we need more than social media posts. We need action:

Graphic reads: "Social media shouldn't be the only place a company calls for social justice. Businesses are either watching history - or making it. Help us hold businesses accountable for racial justice, inclusion, and opportunity. civilrights.org/makehistory."

Reminder: The Senate comes back next Tuesday afternoon and will immediately start voting on...Trump's judicial nominees. No COVID relief. No meaningful police reform. No USPS or election funding. Just more votes to stack the courts with Trump's judicial picks. It's outrageous.

.'s announcements about policing voting misinformation, including by politicians, and defending a fair election are significant improvements & come after much pressure from civil rights community. But everything – any impact – rests on enforcement. We’ll remain vigilant.
