One perk of getting old, though… is living long enough to legit love every song they play at the grocery store. #oldAF

A life-saving donation that costs no $? Donate blood. Last year, blood donations helped to save my wife’s life twice after two late-term pregnancy losses so we’re partnering with and to ask you to literally give the gift of life: rdcrss.org/VDB

Food for thought. #2 is a big one (And one I got wrong, at first. Once we adjusted we saw a huge difference in their willingness and enthusiasm around trying new challenges 👍).

Books and the internet are big on milestone timetables... but I’ve never met an adult who wasn’t potty trained, or didn’t walk because they didn’t learn in time. Kids do stuff at their own pace. Much easier to sync up & support, rather than force or fret.

Its more than you’ve ever had to hold, so give yourselves that hour to let your heart, mind, and soul expand in ways they never have before. It’s known as the “Golden Hour” - and most hospitals will honor it if you ask. It’s the most delicious hour of life. Make space for it ❤️

There’s only one piece of unsolicited advice I give to first-time expecting parents: Take the baby’s first hour of life for just the three of you. The tendency will be to want to call, text, measure, wash... all of that can wait. First, clear the room and just let it all sink in.

In the interest of clarity, I’ll present it all as directly as possible, even if it makes it sound like I think I’m an expert. I’m not. Every kid is different and so is every parent. Take what works for you and feel free to ignore the rest.

I moved to Texas with my wife and five kids, and I’m learning more about parenting and being a father every day. I’ve decided to use this platform to share stuff I wish I’d heard before our first kid.

Best early parenting advice I ever got was: Accept that there’s no such thing as a perfect parent. We’re all doing the best we can in the moment - and usually on less sleep than we need. Recognize, learn, forgive yourself, and keep loving your kid with a heart free of guilt.
