This semester I'm teaching a new PhD course "Economics, AI, and Optimization." I'll be covering how AI/Opt methods enable large-scale economic solution concepts. I'm planning to share lectures notes that I hope will be of broader interest.

1/2 Why isn't it more common to do explicit Hamiltonian MCMC on a Bayesian Neural Network's weights, with eg the initial condition = the loss minima found via SGD? I'm playing around with one in JAX and it seems to be working reasonably even with 5 chains:

The best presentation on PCA that I've ever seen. I will be stealing - I mean "liberating" - this teaching method in the future. We could make a great animation using this too... Also, Bryan, , and I are speaking at the SF RUG in Jan:

After getting published in ICLR as an Independent Researcher, I have received nearly 100 messages from others who are looking to do the same. So I wrote a blog post on why I decided to do it and my advice to others.

One of my favourite speakers is Bryan Moriarty. In addition to being a video game pioneer, his talks are remarkable productions, involving risk, imagination, & vulnerability. His 3-min(!) introduction of Ray Bradbury left me very thoughtful:
