    Speaking from the more Realist flank of this side of the argument, I respectfully disagree: one reason (not the only one) to rethink Forever War is to compete and balance against China's bid for hegemony in Asia. To practise power politics more prudently rather than abandon it.

    If "rethinking the Forever war" just means "refocusing on great power competition with China and/or Russia," we've learned nothing. We need to rethink the entire premise that US global military hegemony is necessary to keep us safe and prosperous.
