Quick comments: 1. Can’t say “thought” so much as “abstraction leak” was behind ‘typeof null’ :-/. 2. -1*0 === -0 but 0 === -0 too per IEEE754 recommendation. Awesome article. In the section describing ways of forcing field initialization to be a Float, maybe it would be worth calling out that some forms get destroyed by minifiers? e.g. Terser converts 0.0 to 0
0.0 wouldn’t help, as that’s still 0 which is a Smi. (We *could* add a special case to our parser of course, but that likely wouldn’t help much for the reasons you outlined.)

Wouldn't it also work, to initialize it with -0? It is still 0, but I think that will force it to be a double.
