Adversity tries to steal our confidence and replace it with fear. It threatens to make us less. I’m choosing to fight back and use adversity to become more: More bold More humble More fearless More empathetic More courageous And above all, more kind

When I see what it has cost me to be a woman in STEM - the implicit bias, harassment, discrimination - the unfairness is crushing. Then I remember that the people I respect aren’t those who accomplish the most, but those who keep standing and fighting in the face of unfairness.

What? No, I am not "ready for the weekend." The weekend means laundry, shopping, cooking, cleaning, taxi-ing, and trying to squeeze in some time-sensitive work, all while being told I should relax more. So, no. I am not ready for all that. I'm ready for a nap.

Yes, please! I asked my lab tech to do it for me because the reviews are getting so harsh and vulgar I feel emotionally attacked. And as my teaching gets better, the harsh comments become more sexist and explicit. 🤦🏼‍♀️😳🤔

(2/2) I welcome feedback but the things students say anonymously are hurtful. I lost a grandparent this semester. A week later my close colleague died unexpectedly, and through it all I did my best. I am held accountable for what I say, students are not. The system has to change.

(1/2) I finally had the courage to look at my Fall course evaluations and the comments - I had 85 students in 2 different courses. I taught while running an NIH R01 funded research group and doing service. While I am looking for constructive feedback, some of them are just mean.

Just saw on Netflix’s “explained” episode on childbirth! So incredible making women’s health and engineering accessible to the public 💪👩‍🔬 y’all should watch it and submit abstracts to in the Women’s Health session

As a leader, it can be tough to admit your failures. But, most of us don’t actually want to be led by someone who never fails. We know we will all face failure at some point, and we want to be led by someone who can be a mentor and role model for how to overcome challenges.
