    Over 80 percent of LAUSD’s students live below the poverty line, far above the national average of 25%. LAUSD estimates 18,000 students are experiencing homelessness. "A county with access to so much funds yet this is our continuous reality." -

    Every time I share with someone that 80% of our LAUSD students live at or below poverty level I re-research it because I still can’t believe it. A county with access to so much funds yet this is our continuous reality.

    1850, U.S. Congress passed draconian Fugitive Slave Act which required that people who had escaped from slavery to anywhere in U.S. be captured & returned. Punished those who did not comply. This undoes any claim of "states rights." Lessons + more ⬇️

    Happy Birthday Paulo Freire! He would have been 100 years old today. Freire’s “Pedagogy of the Oppressed” was one of the most important books in my development as an educator. Thanks for teaching us that we have to not only read the word, but also the world!
