The EU is protecting our private data and forcing companies to treat it like what it is : sensitive stuff. It's the website's fault if they don't want to comply. Moreover complying is easy if you already gave a shit about your users' data.

Then don't complain when sites can't or don't want to comply. If it's so easy and costless to do so amd consumers want it so bad then plenty of other people will set up sites that provide you with all the info you need without selling data. The law would be entirely superfluous.

Of course it’s not costless to do but it’s the *right* thing to do. It’s easy and low cost if you already were respectful of private information. The law is functioning as intended.

Why is it "right" to not allow people to exchange their data for free access to webpages that would have to find some other revenue model to stay in business, even if you as a consumer would like to make that trade? Or am I misunderstanding the law as it currently stands?

While I am not advocating etc killing journalists for dishonest reporting (something they do with alarming frequency), I am not shocked that this happened. The press keeps abusing the 1st amendment by selectively reporting only things that support their political wants.
