On the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attacks, we honor the nearly 3,000 men, women, and children we lost that horrific day. Every one of those individuals was someone’s child, someone’s friend. And the loss of every single one sent ripples radiating outward.

20 years after September 11, 2001, we commemorate the 2,977 lives we lost and honor those who risked and gave their lives. As we saw in the days that followed, unity is our greatest strength. It’s what makes us who we are — and we can’t forget that.

We have consistently said we would continue to help U.S. citizens and others to whom we have a special commitment depart Afghanistan if they choose to do so. Today’s charter flight from Kabul offers another concrete demonstration of that commitment.
