improving in smash feels like such a chore when the only characters i click with (isabelle and corrin) aren’t very viable and i feel like that problem hinders my progress but i don’t know who else to play

Playing a character you enjoy is much more important than it being a top-tier or anything until you get to the top level, and by that point you'll have learned enough fundamentals to be able to switch characters anyway. IMO definitely continue playing whoever you enjoy playing
