A question for @urbit folks as I seek to understand what you hath wrought: you decided to throw out "70's software" like TCP/IP and UNIX, which I get, but you decided to keep 70's hardware, like the x86 instruction set, right? Why is the hardware good enough but the software not?

Or is this just a question of level of abstraction and building on top of existing infrastructure as necessary, like serving up Urbit content via HTTP?

That’s basically right. We layer over existing infrastructure (Unix + TCP/IP) and throw away the current stack.
