Out of interest: given that Urbit's success likely depends on network effects, and having to learn a new language is a barrier of entry to prospective app devs, why is Hoon preferable to more a more ubiquitous language that could quicken the growth of urbit's app ecosystem?
In a way, yes. In the near (ish) future, most people should write programs that call out to Urbit without ever writing Hoon. As our ecosystem of datatypes and programs matures, you wont need to write any Hoon to use Urbit.
Writing Hoon will likely be more like writing a stored procedure in an unusual database language. Hoon has some real advantages — but it shouldn't be needed for casual application programming.
We're actively working on how we think this model should look, but we plan to write it up in the next month or so.
