To clarify: @Urbit is a better solution for identity than Bitcoin, even though Bitcoin is a decentralized network of identity points that are securely transferred. They have different uses. It is better than Ethereum for decentralized computing because it was built for it.https://twitter.com/davealevine/status/1129433232762650629 …

So @urbit is better than Bitcoin or Ethereum because it solves identity and decentralization at once to build a new kind of computer: A truly decentralized one, that is personal, and “lasts 100 years”. https://urbit.org/posts/the-100-year-computer/ …

The intent of Bitcoin is different than @Urbit obviously and they can obviously be compatible and co-exist in a complimentary fashion. The point of my admittedly “trollish” tweet before was that ultimately Bitcoin and Satoshis are a digital identifier in a network.

Obviously Bitcoin accomplishes more than a simple database of identity (the decentralized secure transfer of identifiers within the Bitcoin network is the breakthrough that gives it “value” cc @starkness) so that’s an oversimplification. @urbit is awesome because it does more.

Meaning: the combination of a new form of identity AND a purpose built decentralized compute stack that can connects with that identity network is what makes @Urbit so great. Probably not fair to compare to Bitcoin because it is so different. BUT it accomplishes a lot.

Because @Urbit offers a promise of a digital future where identity can be personal and a key to a new modality of computing that is purpose built for decentralization in a way proof of stake and work blockchains aren’t really.

So... Yes I was “trolling” a bit before to make a point that @Urbit does a lot and oversimplifying what Bitcoin is about in the process. That said, @urbit is groundbreaking in what it already represents for and will accomplish in time. It is the promise of a 100 year computer.
