Our flight deck should reflect the diverse group of people on board our planes every day. That’s why we plan for 50% of the 5,000 pilots we train in the next decade to be women or people of color. Learn more and apply now: uafly.co/UnitedAviateAc

All the highly qualified candidates we accept into the Academy, regardless of race or sex, will have met or exceeded the standards we set for admittance. ^MJ
Until there aren’t enough qualified from one of the groups so you lower the standards, just like the military does for physical fitness.

Understood...support the effort. That said putting a number does smack of a quota..recruiting more qualified people of color/females into a class is a fine idea.. after that the best get the gig...if they’re all women/people of color, great...I just want the best you have 100%

So why haven’t you done this before now? If you had qualified women and minorities, why didn’t you hire them? This implies you’ve been discriminatory until now

But they won’t necessarily be the best, will they? The customers will be aware of that.

1000 applicants, 100 positions. 50/50 a/b quota. 200 meet min standards. 150 a, 50 b. 100 of a exceed the 50 b. Do you then select all from group b?

I only want the best of the best flying me and my family. wants diversity. I only care about excellence. Nothing else matters.

So how can you make a 'type' quota if you are picking the best? What if the ability level swings more towards a specific 'type'? Do you lower standards for the other 'type' to hit your quota target?
Overlook grade A, and take grade B to make sure you have an equal split?

You literally just said you preferred diversity. I want my pilot to "exceed" the standard rather than just "meet" the standard just so you can fill your diversity quota

Right but you’ll deliberately pick someone who scores lower if they meet your second set of criteria.
Thankfully you still have competition.

Maybe just accept qualified applicants regardless of race or gender. Flight attendants are over 90% female, yet I see no attempt to skew that number back toward the middle.
