I'll just spend the entire day feeling unsettled and restless (and draining tons of energy) until it's time for the thing. It doesn't matter if I set alarms to remind me to get ready for the thing so I COULD have lots of time in theory to rest or do other stuff without worrying.

I'm still just going to flounder all day until the thing is over, because executive dysfunction is eternally frustrating and you can't logic your way out of it. That's not how executive dysfunction works.

Okay, I'm so glad people feel so seen by this thread! Here are some notes & FAQs! 1) You're not alone! A lot of people with executive dysfunction experience this exact thing? It doesn't mean you're bad, or lazy, or terrible at [x] thing! Your brain is just different.

2) Does this mean I have ADHD? Maybe! But ADHD isn't the only thing that can cause executive dysfunction. There are a LOT of things, but here are some common ones: - ADHD - anxiety - ASD - bipolar - depression - OCD - PTSD - TBI - Tourette's There are other causes too!

3) How do I know whether I have ADHD? I'd recommend reading up on the 3 types of ADHD & seeing if any of it hits home. If I have energy later, I'll try to find some even better articles & videos, but here's an overview:https://www.additudemag.com/3-types-of-adhd/ …

That article includes a bunch of examples of what ADHD can look like in daily life, not just a symptom list. Also note that those symptom lists are NOT comprehensive! There are a lot of unlisted symptoms too, I believe it's based off the diagnostic criteria in the DSM V.

4) How do I get diagnosed with ADHD? Sometimes your GP/PCP can diagnose it, but in my experience, you're better off with a psychiatrist or psychologist who are better versed in the DSM V and ADHD in particular, if possible. Most GPs don't have advanced knowledge of ADHD.
