Just reread the article. Apparently, Senator Harris isn't the only 2020 Democratic candidate who owns guns. Apparently, the three B's (Beto, Biden, and Buttigieg) own them, too. I wonder why Peter Funt, the writer of the piece, didn't call THEM out for it?

Congress and the president should fix this. These Gold Star families have paid more than enough.

We have come across what appears to be a manifesto for the Poway synagogue shooter. He identifies as an anon from 8chan's /pol/ board. He claims he was inspired by the Christchurch shooting. His manifesto is filled with shitposting and should not be taken literally.

I recall that in the wake of 9/11, the DG of MI5, (now Baroness) Eliza Manningham-Buller advised the US IC that an MI5 model wouldn’t work in the US. She said the UK was smaller (“like a game preserve”) and had other differences that made it work there.

I’ve been back and forth on this. An American version of MI5 sounds good in theory. As a practical matter, though, even if the idea becomes palatable, I’m not sure it’s even possible in our system.

Britain has MI5, its dedicated domestic intelligence service. Serious crime of all sorts is handled by various divisions of the Police, including counter-terrorism with MI5 focussed on CI. I wonder whether you consider that sort of arrangement to be more or less effective.

No. It did. But not for long. I knew two agents in LA and one in Seattle who attended the Farm. The problem was they went on to work for the Agency because the work was so much better overseas than domestically.

When I went into Bu right after 9/11, this was the plan. We actually took a trip to Langley, met with the new class there, and the idea was to send 3-4 people from each on “exchange” to the other agency. I knew one agent who actually did that...I guess it didn’t go anywhere?

Continuing my thought. These agents sole responsibility would be CI work. Problem is most agents don’t come into the bureau to do CI. They want to chase terrorists and bank robbers. So there are lots of challenges in implementing my ideas.

I’m interested in reading your take once the pay wall is down. I may be interested in writing a rebuttal or counterpoint article based on my experience and education. I did a lot of research on best practices for my thesis.

Plus, given what we’ve seen recently regarding the politicization of local police and Sheriff’s, I’m not sure I would want them privy to the actual secrets that the F.B.I. often investigates. Too much risk of leaks.

I actually wrote my MA thesis on the need for a domestic Special Branch of trained CI police officers to do the day-to-day intelligence collection as a force multiplier for the F.B.I., but in retrospect I think that goes against the tradition of an independent local police force.

Sorry John. We have a domestic intelligence service. It’s called the F.B.I. What we need to do is develop and increase its capabilities and make it truly a careeer service within that agency.

Hey Oliver North, you previously aided and abetted in the obstruction of a congressional inquiry. I heard the Administration is hiring. You may want to give them a call.

Another despicable and violent act of anti-Semitism — this time at a synagogue in Poway, California at the end of Passover. We must act to end the scourge of gun violence and come together against the disturbing rise of violent hatred across the U.S.

I hope that people who continue to promote the "Great Replacement Theory" — especially Fox News hosts — will acknowledge that killings like Pittsburgh, Christchurch and Poway are the logical consequence of people taking their rhetoric seriously.

So in conclusion: the NRA (and its entities) can't just un-found itself from New York and found itself in another state For reasons that are either impossible, impractical, or unthinkable
