Sadly, we don't even know *for sure* what they accessed. We just know they sought and received the permission to access cloud and data backup information from computers for an undisclosed number of faculty. The sheer tonnage of what is still unknown...*

Second, the reporting is that the administration accessed not just emails, but documents on *hard drives.* That seems a little different, and perhaps less to be expected by the average faculty member.

I fear that discussion of 's email & hard drive snooping will soon bog down in claims about what the law allows. Sometimes doing what's allowed angers people. Depresses them. Makes them feel small & unvalued. That's what we need to talk about.

Reminding myself and you that over a decade ago when I moved ibiblio workspaces to Google, I met with UNC lawyers who said “This would make it difficult for you to go through your email.” “Sorry for the inconvenience,” I said at the time.

Sickening revelations of admin surveillance of approx 22 faculty and staff emails, hard drives, and other data without clear cause, notification, justification, or procedure - all in the context of a public donor record and the failure to tenure .

Except for the fact that the donor agreement is a public record, faculty members received the record from the media not the other way around, and the university never produced any evidence to the contrary.

I feel for the administrators who were under enormous political pressure to do this, but looking for leaks in a journalism school is like looking for flammable solvents in the chemistry department. They’re supposed to be there.

Rufus is reportedly embarrassed that he made the wrong call on the Capitol Hill fox. “I’m not always the best judge of canines,” he acknowledged while getting a little sip from his little bowl.

A rabid fox running around on Capitol Hill and biting a Democratic congressman. It's a little on the nose.

It’s important to note that Carrboro’s Weaver Street co-exists with a chain grocery just a few feet away.

Westside makes sense as it’s underserved. And the gentrifiers are already there and seeking groceries as well.

I know this is “old” from March 11 and other stories have surfaced before but c’mon, Charlotte, this needs to happen in some small form *this year.*
