I haven't spoken to a single publisher or fellow content creator who thinks the BAT system works well. Brave could have used BTC or ETH natively, the BAT token itself is useless.https://twitter.com/delitzer/status/1058467897918529541 …

Uphold then in turn forces you to use broken 2FA through SMS/Authy instead of industry standard TOTP and KYC/AMLs you to get access to your funds. In my opinion, the entire Brave/BAT situation is a farce that should be replaced with a Metamask-like Chrome plugin and ETH natively.

is there a handy writeup of this? (or do I have to do one from scratch myself)
-
There is not, the documentation is really limited... all I could find on their website is this hilarious final FAQ @https://basicattentiontoken.org/faq/#uphold-banking …
-
Their terms of service might also be a fun read:https://basicattentiontoken.org/publisher-terms-of-service/ …

I have to say, the browser is pretty fast..
-
Chrome with uBlock Origin is also fast. Brave forked Electron if I remember correctly, so I highly doubt their stack can be faster than Chrome with scripts, ads etc. blocked.
-
My Chrome sux.. I have a couple exts on it n still bogged down. I'll take a look at uBlock.
-
If you load the same extensions in Brave, how does the speed compare?
-
I didn't. It bounces around like new.

So if I watch Crypto Weekly in Brave, who is earning interest on the BAT tokens that you supposedly get rewarded with but don't bother claiming?
-
Don't use Brave, their definition of "decentralization" is twisted and false. Just install uBlock Origin in Chrome/Firefox and support creators via Patreon or YouTube Premium.
-
I guess Firefox will still be better than Chrome. Current chrome version has a default login in the browser itself.

@exodus_io wallet holds BAT and you control your own keys. No? -
Hey there,
that is correct! BAT is a fully supported asset in Exodus and you do indeed control your private keys. -PB

Why is that? Isn't it a regular ERC20 token after all?
-
Exactly.

This will change quickly imho. They had to build groundwork for adoption and ad publishers that dont want to deal with crypto. There is a much bigger game plan here that many, your self included are missing.

Tokens “are done waiting for ETH to bounce back: they’re paving their own bull run.” So says Santiment, a data analytics platform.https://www.trustnodes.com/2018/11/03/tokens-decoupling-from-ethereum-says-santiment-analysis …
