I don't want the cops to get violent vs the seditious Trumpists. I want policing to change! Violence should be last resort even here But ofc it's damning that the cops are not getting violent in this case after getting violent w peaceful protestors all over the country all year

Honestly even the white point isn't the whole story. The cops know these dudes have like, 80% of their cars emblazoned with THIN BLUE LINE stickers. The cops probably recognize some of the dudes, at least the ones who didn't come in from out of state (most of them).

Regardless of the obvious racist overtones, this could also be related to police being pretty certain some of these protesters are carrying guns. Police have a personal incentive to deescalate because they don't want to get shot. Peaceful BLM protesters were not carrying guns.
