We have the technology to rapidly diagnose coronavirus in every major metro area. The problem is the bureaucracy! Decentralized testing should be immediately expedited, with executive order if necessary. Every CLIA-certified lab should be able to do this, it’s just RT-PCR.

The Quarantiner’s Dilemma is similar to the Innovator’s Dilemma. There’s a fast-growing but still small threat. Throw all your weight at it early? Then you seem to have overreacted. Wait till it gets big enough to be undeniable? Then you’re surely dead.

Going viral What if this coronavirus is the pandemic that public health people have been warning about for years? It would accelerate many pre-existing trends. - border closures - nationalism - social isolation - preppers - remote work - face masks - distrust in governments

For a virus like this, the time to "overreact" is now, before it becomes pandemic. However, some folks in the US media are acting just like the Chinese state media they claim to deplore -- and minimizing the issue. Don't panic, do take decisive action.

Official Coronavirus cases include only those with a full diagnosis, which requires hospital admission and test kit, both of which are scarce in the crisis region. If people in Wuhan are infected at the same rate as foreign evacuees, then Wuhan alone has over 150K cases now.

There has been a genre of “official misinformation” where Washington Post, Wired, USA Today, BuzzFeed, etc have posted dangerously trivial headlines comparing coronavirus to the flu. Fortunately, NYT has been publishing the science from NEJM, Lancet, CDC, WHO. Credit where due.

be really fucking nice to them this will confuse them at a minimum and in any case make them look like an asshole if they persist this also spares you the risk of overreacting to a false positive they may even Become Good and regardless it is a tremendous Flex

"become good" can be understood in two ways: become virtuous, and become skilled. It seems easy to conflate these: I've certainly seen claims that becoming skilled is part of the process of becoming virtuous.
