Paul Novak & Kari Watson, PhD candidates in Composition, were each presented with awards from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. Along with Augusta Read Thomas, UChicago Prof & AAAL Vice-President for Music, they attended the award ceremony in NYC. Congrats Paul and Kari!

Don't miss the Jazz Ensemble's concert this Thursday at 8 PM in the Logan Center Performance Hall! Their concert will feature the music of Charles Mingus along with a few jazz classics. Free admission, no tickets needed.

The University Wind Ensemble is bringing lots of music to the stage with pieces written as early as 1923 and as recently as 2017. We'll see you at the concert this Sunday, November 14 at 3 pm in the Logan Center!

Augusta Read Thomas' new carillon piece, "Crescat Scientia; Vita Excolatur," was premiered at President Alivisatos' inauguration last week, marking the first time that all 72 bells of the carillon rung simultaneously. That's a lot of bells!

Tea Time concerts are back! Join us tomorrow in Fulton Recital Hall (Goodspeed Hall 4th Floor) at 4:30 for works by Cassadó, Rachmaninoff, and Prokofiev performed by cellist Andrew Molina and pianist Abhishek Sarkar. Come early for complimentary tea and cookies at 4:15!

Aatman Vakil is a third year in the College who participates in lots of our ensembles and programs! "Each of these programs have helped me enrich not only my technical ability and musical repertoire, but have also been a much-needed refuge from hectic academic life."

Piano Program student Cao Linh Pham said of his project with the South Chicago Dance Theatre "Engaging with different forms of expression was something wholly new to me, and it expanded my conception of what it means to perform." Music is from Florence Price's Sonata in E minor.
