Paul Novak & Kari Watson, PhD candidates in Composition, were each presented with awards from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. Along with Augusta Read Thomas, UChicago Prof & AAAL Vice-President for Music, they attended the award ceremony in NYC. Congrats Paul and Kari!

Augusta Read Thomas' new carillon piece, "Crescat Scientia; Vita Excolatur," was premiered at President Alivisatos' inauguration last week, marking the first time that all 72 bells of the carillon rung simultaneously. That's a lot of bells!

Piano Program student Cao Linh Pham said of his project with the South Chicago Dance Theatre "Engaging with different forms of expression was something wholly new to me, and it expanded my conception of what it means to perform." Music is from Florence Price's Sonata in E minor.
