The Seattle city council transportation committee is hearing comments on permanent changes to street dining and food truck regulations this morning. Even the Seattle Restaurant Alliance doesn't support CM Pedersen's amendment keeping food trucks 50 feet from existing restaurants.

Gordon Padelford of Seattle Neighborhood Greenways, speaking in support of the permanent regulations, notes that the argument that food trucks hurt existing businesses is not borne out by data in the real world.
The rule to require food trucks be 50 feet from existing restaurants was a stipulation added as a compromise over a decade ago. Other changes included today would allow food trucks in more residential areas of the city, with some stipulations.
