As sick as I am of talking about GamerGate, I think this is an important conversation to share. "Objectivity"https://storify.com/jasonschreier/gamergate …

@jasonschreier Absolute objectivity is impossible. But there is a line between fair+honest reporting and journalist activism.

@TynanSylvester of course there is! I am not arguing against that point. Part of "fairness" is being open to every possible angle.

@jasonschreier I think a lot of the #gamergate thing comes down to arguments on where that line is, driven by deeper cultural differences.

@TynanSylvester If that was the case, they wouldn't all be tweeting and retweeting activist, subjective articles from Breitbart/Examiner/etc

@jasonschreier The thing is, from their POV those articles are fair+honest. It's a deep gap between belief systems.

@TynanSylvester right, the fundamental problem here is that many of them don't *understand* what "good journalism" actually is.

@jasonschreier Can you objectively determine which journalism is good?

@TynanSylvester haha, of course not. But you can examine language, structure, quoting and figure out what's dishonest/inaccurate/unfair

@jasonschreier Sure. And this process itself is greatly aided by having people of diverse viewpoints on the job. Pluralism rocks.

@TynanSylvester so you think GamerGate's mission is to get more diverse viewpoints on sites like Kotaku? Or to stifle them?

@jasonschreier Not racially/sexually diverse. Perhaps intellectually diverse, though.
