A thread on how to create anti-aging immunotherapy:

Ultimate Coronavirus thread. All science could work this fast - but convention + fear of mistakes stops it. We should go after other diseases with such vigor + urgency. Public results, debate, and yes...mistakes, is moving things rapidly here!

Caveat: ***I'm reading reports on the sequencing. Not checking it myself*** There's a chance newer results have the spike protein found elsewhere naturally. Imagine the consensus on this will become clear soon. Enough data seems to finally be in hand.

IE - the modification was to get it to grow in human cells, as a vaccine against any future natural outbreak from it's parent bat virus. I buy this over bioweapon. The result worked unexpectedly well, there was sloppy handling in the lab, and it got out. Oof.

Ah so the latest word is it DOES have a novel sequence that almost requires it to be engineered. "Option 4. A recombined virus made in a laboratory for the purpose of creating a vaccine."

"96% identical at the whole-genome level to a bat coronavirus" Still could be an escaped lab sample that had undergone some artificial selection - but "intentional bioweapon" sounds rather implausible at this point.

Crowds follow the fitness payoff in group cohesion + consensus; those seeking truth - while perhaps benefitting the crowd long term - are individually 'loners' at a Darwinian disadvantage.

From China CDC (28JAN2020) we can see a proper epidemic curve based on dates of illness onset and a hotspot map. Don't rely on that downward curve, more likely reflects test overwhelm & reporting delays-until we hear otherwise Source:

It's felt very natural. Perhaps more papers should be put out this way 🤔

Remember - there's several public sequences on the Coronavirus. Tens of thousands of molecular biologists know enough to examine the data - incl. me. I choose to share a report by someone who does this more regularly. Sounds like the HIV insertion scare was via poor analytics

These short inserts do indeed exist in relative to its closest sequenced relative (BetaCoV/bat/Yunnan/RaTG13/2013, seen here ). However, a simple BLAST of such short sequences shows match to a huge variety of organisms. No reason to conclude HIV.

There's a reason why NYT bloggers would focus on concern trolling about drug markets when reporting on Bitcoin. If they wrote honest analysis about the absurdities of what the Federal Reserve is up to, they'd end up making Bitcoin very popular.

Essentially no university presidents in their 30s now. Yet some of the best - Ted Hesburgh at Notre Dame - started young. We are losing out by only allowing Silicon Valley to benefit from youth. Seen too many brilliant young scientists depressed + broke. knows.

It's not just the time on the science side - the entire ecosystem has turned into a pyramid via over-training + importing; senority wins. I mean how could you not hire the 40yo w/ decade of experience + family over the 28y PhD? Many choose MD + steer clear altogether.

Authors provide an epidemiologic analysis of first 425 confirmed cases of infection with in Wuhan, China. This analysis provides estimates of the epidemic doubling time and the basic reproductive number and shows clear evidence of sustained human-to-human transmission.

Psssst, there is a plugin for Zotero that automatically pulls articles from sci-hub and it has changed my life. To Big Library: I have full legal access to these articles already, but the insane BS I have to go through to GET them fills me with the rage of 10,000 chihuahuas.
