Conversation

We're all huge fans of running remote companies & communities that support people all over the world, but there's just something magical about getting together IRL to connect with other founders, make friends, and find ways to collaborate.

So last year, we brought 150 founders to Mexico City for the first Founder Summit. 4 days of interactive workshops, small group discussions, fireside chats, and plenty of time to actually meet the other founders who came. Oh and incredible food, venues & beverages

I told the team "we are not an events company, we're going to take risks and do this the way *we* want conferences to be run, if people like that, we'll do more, if not, we can just not do conferences"... well, people freaking loved it.

For this year we're bringing the same vibe but totally different context. We rented out an entire lakeside retreat outside of Asheville in the foothills of the Blue Ridge mountains. Lakes, kayaks, actual fireside chats, and delicious bbq are all on offer.

The event is invite-only to ensure it's 1) all founders and 2) a great mix of folks you actually want to meet and hang out with. Our KPI is that you have a blast and come away with 2-3 new founder friends.

I hate it when conferences make you sit for hours listening to speakers and keynotes that would be better as a podcast. We do very little speakers and put a much heavier emphasis on interactive workshops and time/space to meet other attendees. My rules:

Things that suck about conferences: * talks that would be better as a podcast * not enough time/space to meet other attendees * speakers sequestered in VIP areas * boring/stuffy venues + bad food Just don’t do these and you’re automatically an elite tier event

A fair few folks pre-bought tickets for 2022 before we had even announced the dates/location, but there's still plenty of space right now for new folks. We also have scholarships and sponsored tickets for under-represented founders available.

I forgot to mention! It's very important to us to create a family-friendly event. You can book a 2-4 bedroom private cabin for the family and there will be on-site childcare + summer camp activities.
