A lot of bootstrappers are trying to avoid fitting into an existing category (because they don't want to be compared to competitors). That's actually what you want: a slow-moving incumbent, who's already cleared the trail for you.

I agree. Knowing Justin, I know he means well and is not trying to tell people to be a copycat. But I have to say these days I find myself filling in a ton of asterisks if I were to recommend his content to others new to him

Isn’t everything a “copy” of something before it tho? Can’t think of one product that’s come out of thin air. “Everything is a remix” no? Copycatting* something is a waste of time. But, remixing, making it better, why not?
