Bet you didn't know your neighbourhood 'little library' might not be legal. (Naturally the city now hopes to smother them with regulation. So Ottawa.) #ottnews#ottcity
New for @POLITICOMag: I profiled @jamestalarico, the Texas Democrat and seminary student who is fighting the culture wars by quoting scripture—and who keeps going viral in the process. https://politico.com/news/magazine/2023/06/16/james-talarico-texas-democrats-00101231…
Edmonton’s mayor is on a 10-day trade mission in Europe to promote the city’s technology and innovation sectors and attract investment, his third overseas trip in just over a year. #yeg#yegcc

During former President Donald J. Trump’s years in the White House, his aides began to refer to the boxes full of papers and odds and ends he carted around with him almost everywhere as the “beautiful mind” material. It had a specific connotation. https://nytimes.com/2023/06/15/us/politics/trump-documents-boxes.html…
If the hugely profitable Bell won’t loss-lead the news then no one will. My column for the @OttawaCitizen on the looming death of quality journalism https://ottawacitizen.com/opinion/macdougall-bell-cuts-are-another-step-toward-the-abyss-for-credible-accountable-journalism…
It’s been done a million times but, Ezekiel 23:20: “There she lusted after her lovers, whose genitals were like those of donkeys and whose emission was like that of horses.”
Anti-abortion group Campaign Life Coalition is calling on supporters to attend a protest against “homoerotic and transsexualist perversions” at the Human Rights Monument Saturday in Ottawa.
These events are very organized and getting help from groups with money behind the scenes
Imagine being nine years old, with all the shit that happens at that age, and having some sinister old bigot bullying you in public, and then managing to be dignified in print about it. Incredible courage.
In her own words: We invited the Kelowna girl, age 9, harassed by a spectator at a recent track-and-field meet & questioned about her gender to put her thoughts in writing. Kari Starr, one of her mothers, forwarded this letter. https://vancouversun.com/news/in-her-own-words… via @VancouverSun
Question I have the answer to now: how many of the wildfires this year are under investigation by RCMP because they're suspicious? 12. Out of 641 (or 647 per the wildfire app).
is the Sun now offering free "buy and sell" advertising for all politicians, or just the Premier?
(there's no angle to this story relating to Danelle Smith in her role as Premier)

My only thought on Cormac McCarthy: I am quite simply not smart enough to read a book that doesn't have punctuation or attribution to help me understand what the hell is going on.
We need more homes. Here's my plan:
Fine city govs that block home building & give bonuses for those that speed it up
Require apartments around all federally-funded transit stations
Sell off 6,000 federal buildings to turn them into housing
BREAKING NEWS: Cormac McCarthy, a preeminent voice in American literature over the better part of the past half-century, died today at his home in Santa Fe, N.M., his publisher, Knopf, confirmed. He was 89. Full obit to follow.
Grandparents attending a school track meet in Kelowna stopped the event and demanded a 9 year-old female student be examined to make sure they weren't a boy competing in a girls event.

Just had another Berlusconi memory come to mind. Berlusconi and the then-Greek PM were chatting around Harper at a summit. Then laughter.
🇬🇷 and 🇮🇹 leaders were ‘arguing’ over who invented sex. 🇬🇷 claimed it was they, and Berlusconi retorted: ‘But 🇮🇹 invented sex with women!”
Story re: Berlusconi call we did ahead of the 2010 G-8 & G-20.
Harper laid out his agenda, which came at a critical time for the global economy, as he did with all leaders.
Unlike others, Berlusconi waved away all summit chat to instead ask Harper about the girls in Toronto twitter.com/financialtimes…
In a statement, Brown's lawyers list evidence they say they have to support him, including surveillance video of the incident, testimony from the hotel bartender, and a report from a P.I.
They say evidence "completely vindicated" Brown but he retired because of strain of process.
Holy shit: Russell Brown has resigned from the Supreme Court as he's being investigated for the drunken altercation incident in Arizona. He is 57 years old, meaning he still had almost 20 years left to sit if he wanted to.

I mean, the tactical team was using the nearby elementary school as its staging grounds.
There was a police gunman hiding in a hedge. The EPS LAV was there. So like, for the people who live nearby it's like, so uh, who were these people? Just how risky were they?
Small item: Last night, the tac team spent an hour trying to get "armed and dangerous" people to leave a house. Given police secrecy and encrypted radios, there's no way to know what happened.
Or for neighbours to know how armed and how dangerous the people were believed to be.
There have been a lot of smart pieces about whether this was the NDP's last, best chance at winning government in Alberta. This, in the Tyee, makes a smart argument why this might have actually been conservatives' last chance at forming government. #ableg
