The implication from people who claim the entire burden of the tariff only falls on US consumers to argue against Trump, is that it wouldn't matter if it only hurt China, which is frustrating & kind of ironically nativist

Those that argue it only hurts Americans are usually the same people that say both sides benefit from trade.

It hurts Chinese manufacturers, sure. But why is that ipso facto a good thing? Does hurting Chinese manufacturers benefit American consumers somehow? I don’t see that it does. The phrase “cutting off your nose to spite your face” comes to mind.

Don’t disagree about the longer run considerations, I don’t see anything in the article that supports the claims that it is “not true that U.S. consumers are bearing the full burden” or Trump’s claims that China is paying the tariff now.

I don't doubt your logic here Tyler but it seems like China wouldn't realize these negative effects immediately, do you think any politician could withstand the mounting pressure from within their own party to ultimately see this through? That seems to be the limiting factor here
