As a religious liberal, I don't think it's possible for mortals to know who is going to hell and who isn't, with any degree of certainty. It's worth noting though that Jesus was quite clear that people who fail to care for "the least of these" are in fact going there.

A fair number of people are in fact horrified. Whether you are horrified or not seems to depend on your position on the Remain-Leave spectrum and which side of the English Channel you live on.

Most people aren't saying it's because they're political opponents, right? I agree with the general sentiment that we shouldn't engage like that. But usually it's invoked because someone is guilty of torture or putting kids in cages not because they're political opponents per se.
