The sit-in that I helped to facilitate occurred bc administrators had refused to meet with students about issues of university governance

They refused those meetings, just as they refused meetings for years with @TraumaCenterNow, sexual assault survivors and advocates, and more

Those issues moved forward not because admin embraced challenging questions and "rigorous inquiry," but instead bc people fought to be heard

UChicago opposes a bill that would require that the campus police force -- which patrols more than 60k people -- to make its policies public

That's the same level of transparency as public police forces, for a force that polices more than 60k people, the vast majority non-UofC.

UChicago has a long history of pushing black & brown & poor ppl out of #HydePark, & that legacy caries on today w/ its private police force

One might think that policies & police stop records being public might help facilitate open dialogue about this... well: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You can check out disciplinary reports online: ppl who plagiarized are punished more harshly than those found guilty of sexual assault.

In this regard, it's clear that UChicago is not a "safe space" -- for women, queer ppl, and all ppl who experience sexual violence
