Twitterrific’s Tweets

Pinned Tweet
Today marks the end of an era. Sadly, we've been forced to pull Twitterrific from both the iOS and Mac App Stores. Twitter’s unexplained revocation of our API access has left the app with no path forward. Please read our blog for more information🖖

Popping in to mention my interview with James Bilsbrough and about the end of We talk 3rd party clients, how we got here and the negative ramifications Elon Musk’s decision has on accessibility, users and more

It’s been 36 hours since Twitter disabled access for Twitterrific for iOS & other 3rd party apps. There’s still no official word about what’s going on. We apologize for the ongoing interruption. 😓 This post from has the latest info

To be clear, Biz “started” using “tweet” because Blaine Cook suggested it to while beta testing in 2007 which got implemented into the software’s lexicon immediately. And Ollie is the mascot of Twitterrific—predating Twitter’s bird icon. iirc

Also, the button was labeled “update”, because it *updated* your status, and the timeline was a bunch of status updates. Biz started calling them “tweets” on Twitter’s blog in 2008. But it wasn’t until about 18 months later when we started calling them Tweets in the UI.

Our quota for tweet translation has been exceeded several times over the last few days due to the events in Ukraine 🇺🇦. As a result, translation may be unreliable sometimes. We’re keeping an eye on it, hopefully service will return to normal soon. 👍

A look back at where we came from and how Twitterrific’s Ollie is still flapping his wings after all these years. Thanks to Craig for his insightful interview!
