I think I'm gonna mute this, but before I do, I just want to say, watching Roots doesn't count. Also, as my good friends have pointed out, if you only learned about black suffering, you didn't learn enough.

Actually, I forgot that my mother had us watch all of Roots when I was 9. But like, context wasn't there and discussed afterwards. However, I think it was really good that she showed that and look back and think about how it was a strange choice given that she is openly racist.
