    I never thought that awakening/enlightenment was real or if real, achievable. Recent experiences from my own meditation practice convinced me it's real and doable, without having to believe any woo. Not sure I would recommend it, however, as it's usually a pretty bumpy ride.

    Everything you need to know about enlightenment can be taught with just three concepts: ~our perceptual envelope is made of nonconceptual awareness ~realization is the act of noticing that nonconceptual awareness ~simple meditation yields attentional skill, making noticing easier

    I've been thinking about this for quite a while, the talks are trivial to stream but for me there biggest benefit of conferences is meeting people. Maybe there could be video chat rooms? Virtual poster sessions could work really well with that too.

    Papers are published online - conferences should be too!!! More attendees ($30 instead of $2000+, no visa issues) More content (anyone could stream a talk) More often ( every quarter) Seems like a no brainer Would you go to an ?

    I have written a note on the case for Bayesian deep learning:

    Bayesian methods are *especially* compelling for deep neural networks. The key distinguishing property of a Bayesian approach is marginalization instead of optimization, not the prior, or Bayes rule. This difference will be greatest for underspecified models like DNNs. 1/18
