Thank you. The *way* we got this one wrong is important, too. Involves assessing "evidence"; judging tail-risk; applying the precautionary principle; overcoming institutional arrogance and inertia; being better at public goods... And yes, why did we ignore the experts in Asia?https://twitter.com/chrislhayes/status/1271499106641461257 …

Nothing. Except public officials were petrified of being OOS on PPE. Worst, they destroyed future trust. Obliterated. Among the grandest failures in modern history. It resulted in the battle of not wearing masks that will keep on going.

You haven't seen the meme of masks causing hypoxia and hypercapnia? It's shocking how thoroughly our biases filter and shape which data we find credible these days. One assumes it was always this way, but only now broadcast in real time.

Their manhood? cultural resistance to masks are strong, misguided masculinity or American individualism. Walking around Chicago countless times I see couples where the women wears masks and their male partner don’t. Feels like people are desperate for reasons to not wear.

Czech, Taiwan, HK, etc. presented a different story. Taiwan has been no cases for >56 days and all restrictions were lifted a Jun 7 w/o any lockdowns. Now Germany is on board, too. Why not give it a real try along with other measures? Educate ppl to wear properly is critical.pic.twitter.com/R8tjwEMzeY
