there's simply no amount of facts that will move a number of people. To me, it's that no matter what whiteness is ALWAYS seen as redeemable. The fact that it's a POWERFUL white person makes this all the more so.

Why would these powerful white men stop doing the things they do? Why? What consequences have we given them? What incentives do they have to be better? Help me understand why white boys wouldn't want to grow up to be exactly like John McCain?

Because prisons are institutions predicated on isolation & secrecy it can be difficult to get a full sense of how many ppl are participating in the strike. But, as has always been the case, there are many ways for ppl to protest that are less conspicuous, but no less important.

I don’t get it. Dude was a public figure of serious consequence but we can’t talk about the things he did with his power and influence? “He was a nice person to me, journalist person”...is not the proper lens through which we should consider his actual votes + policy positions.

That pressure you feel to give McCain a pass, to find the "fine moments" in his life, to remind people he "fought for our country". That is the conditioning that tells you powerful white people can't be condemned. It is the opposite of "he was no angel".
