Out of interest I wrote a WebGL implementation of Brent Burley's improved histogram-preserving tiling (originally by , and ). Cool stuff! You can play with it here:

This morning we had our annual Rendering Competition. The theme was "The outer limits" and we had some amazing entries! got the grand prize (an NVIDIA Titan RTX) for his black hole image. got runner up. See more info here:

We have 2 papers at that together make up , RGL's new fully differentiable, vectorized, spectral, and polarized renderer. The first (w/, Delio Vicini, ) explains the system, which looks a lot like a compiler:

Hot off the presses: Our SIGGRAPH Asia paper on selective metropolization is now online. If most of your image looks great with a path tracer, except for a few fireflies - you can use our paper to use BDPT *only* on the hard paths and clean them right up:

Excited to see some of my research at NVIDIA on the big screen at SIGGRAPH! Watch this space for future research on real-time raytracing.

Google scholar keeps merging one of my entries with a completely unrelated catheter patent (?). It gives me the option to unmerge, but it reverts after a few days. Has anyone encountered something like this before? Any ideas how to fix this permanently?

git was throwing increasingly bizarre errors my way, so I decided to run git fsck---3MB of output. Checked on my git objects -- $ find .git/objects -type f | wc -l 10985 $ find .git/objects -type f -size 0 | wc -l 10733 98% of my git objects are empty (?!)

I've been playing some more with neural nets over Christmas. Here's an attempt at decoding JPEGs better: Left is what your standard image viewer produces, right is the image generated by the trained neural net. Works surprisingly well!
